It has been more than a week since electricity supply to Tembisa substation has been affected due to a failed transformer that supplies electricity to City of Ekurhuleni’s (CoE) Tembisa customers.
The transformer which supplies large parts of Tembisa failed on Sunday, 5 December 2021. Eskom estimates that the time of complete restoration will be on Saturday, 18 December 2021.
A new transformer was transported to the substation on Saturday, 11 December 2021. Technicians are currently hard at work to switch back the lights on in Tembisa.
Meanwhile, rotational load reduction continues in Tembisa while Eskom engineers and technicians work on restoring energy to the area.
The rotational reduction results in the electricity being switch off for prolonged periods of time, sometimes even more than 5 hours.
The load reduction is implemented to avoid a complete black out.
The newly appointed Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Tania Cambell, has reiterated the call for calm in Tembisa amidst the load reduction in the area. The load reduction will continue until the transformer is installed and put into service.
“I wish to thank the residents of Thembisa for their patience and understanding during this unexpected period of load reduction. I stand in solidarity with the residents who are currently being inconvenienced by the rolling power outages.” said Mayor Campbell.
Story is developing.
