SECOND CHANCE MATRIC SUPPORT PROGRAMME

Registration for May/June 2025 Examinations

If you did not meet the desired results in your National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate (SC) examinations, there is still hope!

The Gauteng Department of Education’s Second Chance Matric Support Programme offers candidates an opportunity to improve their results or complete their matric. Here’s what you need to know:

Senior Certificate (SC) Examination

This option is for adult learners who are 21 years or older and meet the following criteria:
• Eligibility Requirements:
• Must have Grade 9 (old standard 7) or an equivalent qualification.
• Hold a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC).
• Possess a recognized equivalent qualification obtained at NQF Level 4 that includes two official languages.
• Candidates who dropped out between the ages of 18–21 must obtain approval from the Provincial Head of Department to register.

National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examination

The NSC exam is for those who want to rewrite their matric:
• Eligibility Requirements:
• Only available for candidates who have written matric previously (no online registration for this exam).
• Candidates must not add or change subjects.
• Must comply with:
• Internal assessments (oral and practical components for subjects requiring them).
• Promotion requirements for Grade 10 and 11.
• A valid ID (ID number or passport) certified with a UMALUSI certificate is compulsory.

How to Register
• Registration can be done:
• Online: Visit www.eservice.gov.za (SC candidates only).
• Manually: At registered examination centres or through the relevant district offices (NSC candidates).
• Registration Dates:
• Open: 1 October 2024
• Close: 7 February 2025
