Eskom started to implement “electricity supply restrictions “ across Gauteng today. Eskom in Gauteng says it has identified areas with very high non-technical losses mainly in residential areas.
Kaalfontein, Ebony Park and Ivory Park will be affected by Eskom’s new intervention. The areas have been identified as one of the areas with high overloading caused by illegal connections, meter bypassing and cases of tampering with electricity infrastructure. It doesn’t help that the areas are filled with tenants thereby causing further strain to the grid.
Early this morning of the 12th of May 2020 the power was cut off at 05:00 and restored at 09:00 in KAE. Eskom says it will start restricting supply from 05:00 to 09:00 and again from 17:00 to 20:00. Eskom will be restricting supply as a response to safeguard its assets from repeated equipment failure and explosions as a result of overloading.
The implementation of this initiative will be done on a rotational basis and Eskom will continuously monitor developments to determine any improvements. We refer to the intervention as “secret loadshedding “. This is because unlike loadshedding there’s no schedule for the intervention. Electricity can either go off from 5am or 5pm. We don’t know. Furthermore, we have no idea of which areas are also affected.
The Senior Manager of Maintenance and Operations in the Gauteng Unit, Mothlabe Ramashi said. “We will carry on to partner and collaborate with the affected communities and stakeholders to ensure that electricity is delivered to all customers, as we are of the view that electricity remains an essential service.”
Please don’t hesitate to contact KAE News when experiencing a power outage. We need to establish a trend for a more informed reporting.
