SOCCER STAR HANDS HIMSELF OVER AT RABIE RIDGE POLICE STATION
Shaune Mogaila, the Sekhukhune United soccer player involved in a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 9-year-old girl in Tembisa, has handed himself over to the police.
The 29-year-old reported to the Rabie Ridge police station on Wednesday afternoon, following the tragic crash earlier on Wednesday morning. Ekurhuleni Metro Police spokesperson, Thabiso Makgato, confirmed that Mogaila, who sustained only a minor forehead bruise, fled the scene initially.
The accident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday as the mother was taking her child and a neighbour to school when her Hyundai Grand i10 collided with Mogaila’s BMW. Mogaila was returning from Peter Mokaba Stadium after his team’s victory over Richards Bay and is suspected to have been under the influence.
The incident has led to the opening of a case of culpable homicide, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
