STAGE 2 LOADSHEDDING FROM 9:00 TO 23:00 TODAY

Eskom will implement Stage 2 rotational loadshedding today, the 13th of December 2019. The power utility said that the system remains vulnerable and it has lost generating units yesterday. Loadshedding is required today to cater for further trips.

The focus is to reduce unplanned breakdowns to below 9 500 MW to enable the stop of loadshedding next week. President Cyril Ramaphosa promised the nation on Wednesday, 11 December, that they would be no loadshedding over the Christmas festive period.

Ramaphosa said that from December 17 to January 13, and “hopefully thereafter”, the lights would stay on and there would be no loadshedding.

KAE (Kaalfontein, Allandale, Ebony Park) and surrounding areas will experience loadshedding at 20:00 to 23:00. Extra 30minutes is added to allow for process of restoration to take place.

It does not mean when power goes off it is loadshedding. It could be a power outage which is an unplanned interruption of supply as a result of a disconnection of 1 or more lines on the power network.

A power outage unlike loadshedding will only happen in a few select houses. It is not scheduled and the duration can vary depending on the problem. Loadshedding is scheduled and only lasts for 2-4 hours.

Possible causes of a power outage include bad weather, cable theft or equipment failures resulting in trips.

Customers who experience power failure and not affected by loadshedding should log a call at citypower.mobi or you can call City Power call Centre at 086 056 2874 for assistance.
