Serious Violence detectives from the Ivory Park SAPS have today, 21 June 2022, arrested four (4) men from the Ivory Park Local Taxi Association for attempted murder
“The four suspects are alleged to have violently beaten a local man and later doused him with petrol after they accused him of stealing an Ipad belonging to one of the suspects’ children”, said Captain Ben Matimulane the spokesperson of the Ivory Park SAPS.
“The victim, who is currently fighting for his life in hospital, was picked up from a car wash in Clayville’s Extension 45 and taken to their taxi offices in Mayibuye where he was handcuffed and beaten to a pulp.” Matimulane said.
“During the assault they continued to demand the Ipad an accusation that the victim vehemently denied. He was taken back to Clayville, whereby paraffin was bought and poured on the victim and subsequently set alight.” Matimulane added.
The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has condemned this barbaric act and is adamant that these kind of actions will not be tolerated in Ivory Park.
“This level of cruelty should be dealt with decisively to ensure that all organisations and associations are subject to the rules which we are all subjected to. Mob mentality cannot be tolerated,” said Brigadier Ngcobo
The Brigadier has thanked the witnesses who ensured that, despite the fact that the victim cannot open a case, statements were taken thus leading the police to these arrests
The four, whose ages range from 28 to 48, will be charged with attempted murder and are expected to answer to this charge in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.
