The Ivory Park Taxi Association (IPTA) under the capable leadership of Mr Buti Khoza held an end of year Annual General Meeting (AGM) last week Wednesday the 20th of November 2019.

The taxi driver who recently qualified as a teacher,Pelican Khumalo, was invited to the AGM. Khumalo who KAE News broke the story of his commendable graduation from the University of South Africa (UNISA) was delighted when the Association promised that he will be refunded his tuition fees.

An amount of R52 500 paid over 5 years will be refunded to Khumalo. The Vice Chairperson of the Taxi Association Mr Vusi Macheke applauded Khumalo on his recent graduation.

“Pelican did a great job as a driver. Drivers wake up as early as 4am daily to ferry passengers. They generally have little time but he managed to graduate. We are proud of him as the Association and we will be paying his money back” said Macheke.

The 28 year old Pelican follows footsteps of another driver from the Association who also graduated from UNISA and is now an admitted Attorney.

Along with his tuition fees to be refunded. The Association has also pledged to buy him a personal laptop.

The Ivory Park Taxi Association is not new to funding education. Every year in February top performing students around Ivory Park are sent to University to further their studies.

The Vice Chairperson concluded by saying other drivers can learn a great deal from Pelican. He is disciplined and has good time management skills. This can also be attributed to the IPTA sponsored training with Oratile which teaches taxi drivers customer service skills.
