TEMBISA SAPS MANDELA DAY EVENT

Tembisa SAPS Communication, Social Crime Prevention, GBV Co-ordinator, Community in Blue, Bophelong-Empilweni Orphanage and Rebohle Security & Protection dedicated their 67 minutes to a house at Endulwini Section, Tembisa.

This is the house where, in June 2022, a 21 year old Minenhle Ngwenya was stabbed and killed by her boyfriend in the presence of her cousin.

During the funeral arrangements, it was noticed that the family is disadvantaged and Minenhle was the breadwinner supporting her 38 year old unemployed mother and her five siblings.

Mr Noah Muleya, the Director of Rebohle Security Company heard the story of this Ngwenya family and got touched. He took it upon him to give a little he had and donated the burglar proof doors, fixed the electricity wiring and bought brand new doors. More members of the Tembisa community offered their help in donations and cleaning the house.

Mrs Barbara from Ubuhlebezwe Place of Safety and Orphanage donated a DB box, groceries, clothes, school uniform and books. She further promised that she will take it upon herself to make sure the children are present daily at school by liaising with the principal.

Members from Tembisa police station also donated clothes, groceries, a brand new couch and coffee table.

Minenhle’s mother couldn’t hold back her tears and thanked everyone who gave her a hand since the day Minenhle passed on until today. She said the visits and the support she gets from the Tembisa police station GBV office and the counseling organised, makes her feel Minenhle has left her with new family.

Sergeant Pitsi Makgatho urged the community especially the parents to have those daughter parent conversations.
“Know your child’s boyfriend, be open to each other so that when she face problems out there, she doesn’t get afraid to talk and stay until similar tragedies occur” she urged.

She further asked community to always be eyes and ears of the police and never say it is not my problem and only talk when something terrible has occured.
