TEMBISA SMART SCHOOL ROBBED

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is shocked by another break-in at a Tembisa smart school.

The Department is disturbed by the robbery at Khulasizwe Primary School in Sedibeng, Tembisa this morning of the 21st of November 2019. Several electronic equipment were stolen.

According to the information at GDE disposal, the school’s alarm system was triggered by the burglary, which alerted the armed response, who in turn notified the police.

Unfortunately , the perpetrators left the premises when police arrived, taking off with 41 laptops, 25 desk-top computers, 25 tablets, 2 severs, 2 projectors and R1900 petty cash. The estimated value of stolen items is R500 000,00.

The department is extremely concerned that valuable resources in schools which are meant to enhance the delivery of quality education to learners are seen by some as an opportunity to feed their criminal deeds and rob our learners off their right to quality basic education.

“Our schools are hunting grounds for criminals. We would like to appeal to the community at large to work collectively with law enforcement agencies and bring forth any information that will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book and justice is served. We can’t postpone the future of our children,” said GDE MEC Panyaza Lesufi.

A case has been opened with SAPS and investigations are ongoing. Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said no arrests can be confirmed at this stage. Masondo added that the number of suspects involved in the robbery could not be confirmed at this stage, but said they suspected that a number of suspects were involved, based on the number of items stolen.
