THREE ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF UNLICENSED FIREARMS IN IVORY PARK

The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed the arrest of a local man in Ivory Park 3, in the early hours of Wednesday morning for alleged possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, and illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“Police worked around the clock following intelligence to the effect that a vehicle that was reported robbed in Olifantsfontein was at some place in Ivory Park, and that the person in whose possession the vehicle is, has an unlicensed firearm.”

“Indeed the vehicle in question was seen at the address, albeit with false registration numbers. The person in possession of the vehicle was identified, the vehicle was thoroughly checked, and it was found to have been the one they were looking for. On conducting further search at the suspect’s residence the officers found an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.” said the Ivory Park SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Ben Matimulane.

The suspect, 39, was arrested and taken to the Ivory Park police cells for detention, pending his appearance at the Tembisa Magistrate Court where he is expected to face charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle, and for illegally being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Brigadier Ngcobo said: “This arrest bodes welll for the community of Ivory Park and anywhere else this suspect may have been operating. Providing information to the police remains a viable solution to defeating crime.”

This suspect is the third person to have been arrested in Ivory Park this week for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and some other stolen property.

Just three days ago, two men, aged 27 and 29, were arrested in Ivory Park 2,for possession of a stolen motorcycle and two hunting rifles, all of which were reported in the Pretoria area.

The three men are to appear (separately of course) in the Tembisa Magistrate court to face the charges levelled against them.
