IVORY Park station head, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed Wednesday’s arrest of three men for hijacking and possession of a hijacked truck.
The trio was arrested at a scrapyard in Extension Two, Ivory Park, after the police received information about the truck’s movements within the vicinity.
One of the suspects has been positively identified as one of the original robbers involved in the hijacking of the truck which was carrying grocery valued at R250, 000, 00. The hijacking took place on Monday evening along the R21 highway, in the Olifantsfontein policing area by the occupants of a white sedan impersonating police officers.
Some of the armed robbers were wearing police uniform while the sedan used during the hijacking was fitted with a blue light. At the time the truck was found, the registration number had been changed and the grocery is still outstanding.
Ivory Park police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward by calling them on 011 990 9600, and are assured that any information brought to their attention will be treated confidentially. “We welcome this development and our detectives are hard at work trying to establish what other criminal activities are these three involved in. furthermore their status in the country will be verified to find if they are entitled to be here or not,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
The three are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court in due course to answer to charges levelled against them. In the recently released Crime Statistics the Ivory Park recorded 0 truck hijackings in the Ivory Park Policing precinct.
