THREE Ivory Park men who used to terrorise innocent victims in the Glen Austin area, Midrand, have been sentenced to 13 years each in prison by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court for robberies committed more than two years ago.
Brian Moyana, 27, Costa Moyana, 23, and Junior Munyaradzi, 26, got the shock of their lives when they were on Tuesday were handed effective 13 years in prison for robberies, with Munyaradzi and Costa receiving an additional seven years in prison for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
During their robbery spree the trio will strip their victims naked, threaten to kill them, and forcefully take their belongings. They were arrested by the Ivory Park police one day in March shortly after committing yet another robbery. During investigations they were found with five cellphones, of which two were identified by one of the victims as his. Their cases were meticulously investigated by Detective Sergeant Andile Mbovane of the Ekurhuleni District Trio Task Team. They have been in jail since they were arrested.
The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Ngcobo, has welcomed this sentencing, saying it clearly sends the right message to other criminals while simultaneously restoring justice to the victims of these three men.
“We salute Detective Sergeant Mbovane for the job well-done. His thorough investigation has ensured that the victims get the justice they deserve,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
