UPDATE ON THE KAALFONTEIN MULTIPURPOSE CENTRE

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) is implementing the Kaalfontein Multipurpose Centre on behalf of the City of Johannesburg’s Community Development.
The facility will benefit the residents of Kaalfontein, Ebony Park and Ivory Park.
“The facility forms part of the City of Johannesburg’s strategy to meet this demand for new social infrastructure to fulfil the broader regeneration objectives, including transforming communities, skills growth, employment creation, quality of life and affording communities access to recreational spaces.” said Elias Nkabinde, the spokesperson of the JDA.
The development is being implemented in three phases to ensure a high-quality facility that meets the needs of the community.
While the project has experienced unforeseen delays, the JDA continues to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure its completion.
Once finished, the 3236m² facility will provide residents with a wide range of recreational amenities including skills development, employment creation, and improved quality of life.

What percentage of the project is completed so far?
• Phase One: Complete
Phase one included a range of key features, including a new soccer pitch, multi-purpose courts, grandstands, paving walkways, attenuation pond Blocks B and C

• Phase Two: Block A – 35% Complete
Phase two of the project entails the construction of the main building works. Phase two will go a long way in realising the fully-fledged facility, consisting of a new double-storey administration and office building, community hall, library, learning centre, offices, and community hall.
Completion date for this is phase is anticipated to be in Q4 of 2025.
• Phase 3K Block D and swimming pool – Commencement to be confirmed
The opening of the Kaalfontein MPC will be confirmed once phase 3 of the project starts late this year.
