WOMEN’S MONTH CELEBRATION AND GBV AWARENESS CAMPAIGN IN TEMBISA

Tembisa SAPS aCommunication, Social Crime Prevention, GBV Coordinator, Sector Managers and Vispol Support Office headed by the Acting Tembisa Station Commander Colonel Rose Mokoena with Community in Blue, CPF, GBV Brigades and in partnership with Mr Noah Muleya’s Rebohle Security and Projects Company and Hlulani Brass Band, all came under one banner after a week long protest crowned “lets fix 1632”.

This protest had left the township roads unfriendly to access the streets.

One will remember that 1632 is the Tembisa postal code which most of the people from Tembisa proud themselves with.

The campaign started off from Moriting Section with a prayer by non other than a female pastor, Mandisa. She prayed among other things for calm in the township, God’s intervention and all social ills.

Mr Muleya praised the Tembisa Police and said he never had a dull moment with the members from this police station and vowed that he will be planning to organise a march to the Station Commander which will be about satisfaction and appreciation than complaint.

Lebohang, from Hlulani Brass Band said as a Tembisa youngster he is willing to see more of his peers joining the Band as it keeps them away from drugs and alcohol abuse at a tender age. He further related that other children are lucky to have their parents and that opportunity, one has to use it wisely by listening.

All the women present said, they find it unnecessary to be pampered on this special day, if that will be done in a messy, dirty Tembisa and felt they rather clean the house and wait for their partners to treat them afterwards.

Sergeant Pitsi Makgatho with the GBV Brigades, distributed GBV awareness pamphlets and addressed GBV, teenage pregnancy, abuse of substance and alcohol, which leads to underage children being sorted by the police while they are hiding with friends abusing alcohol and substance.
