CORONAVIRUS DEATH IN KWAZULU-NATAL, 1280 CONFIRMED CASES IN SOUTH AFRICA
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NCID) has recorded a new coronavirus related death in South Africa. The 74 year old male had been in ICU and on ventilation in a private hospital in Ladysmith. He travelled to Kruger National Park with his family and came back with flu like symptoms. He was confirmed to be COVID-19 positive on the 27 March 2020.
The deceased’s family, 14 health workers, including 3 specialist doctors, who were in contact with him are now in quarantine and being monitored.
As of today the 29th of March 2020, South Africa has 1,280 confirmed cases of covid-19. This is an increase of 93 cases from yesterday. Gauteng (584) remains the province with the highest number of covid-19 patients.
Total number of deaths in South Africa is 2. One of the deaths reported on Friday was incorrectly classified as a coronavirus death. The patient who died at a health facility was suspected of having covid-19 but later found to be negative. She died from other ailments.
