LOAD REDUCTION IS BACK
The Power Utility, Eskom, will implement Load Reduction this morning of Wednesday, 16 June 2021 (Youth Day) from 05:00 until 09:00. The Load Reduction will be implemented in parts of Kaalfontein, Ebony Park, Kaalfontein, Rabie Ridge and Tswelopele.
Eskom says that Load Reeuction is implemented in high density areas to avoid “overloading”. Ironically, during the load reduction customers are urged to switch off electrical appliances to avoid transformer failures while it is almost always the load reduction in itself that causes transformers to fail or explode in the above mentioned areas.
Some neighbourhoods of Ebony Park Ext.3, Kaalfontein Extension 7 and Ivory Park North have not had electricity in more than a month. The discriminatory Load Reduction is unlike Eskom’s Loadshedding which affects every area in South Africa.
Load reduction only affects black township while Loadshedding affects black and white. While Loadshedding is implemented for less than 3 hours a session, Load reduction is implemented for 4 hours in the morning and 5 hours in the afternoon.
