IVORY PARK STATION HEAD WELCOMES 15 YEARS SENTENCE FOR MURDER
The Ivory Park station head, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed last week’s lengthy sentence given to an Ivory Park man for a murder incident committed in October 2019.
The Tembisa Magistrate’s Court sentenced Neo Given Chauke, 29, to 15 years in prison for the murder of Ndoda Ntsindi during a liquor fuelled fight which took place at Rider’s Tavern in Extension Two, Ivory Park in 2019.
“Chauke stabbed the victim once on the chest during the argument, the details of which are still murky even at this stage. Ntsindi, the victim, was taken to hospital where he died shortly after arrival. He was 26 years old. Chauke was arrested two days after the murder and he had been out on bail up until he was convicted last week and subsequently sentenced (to 15 years)” said the Ivory Park SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane.
“Credit must be given to our Detective Officer, Sergeant Leshabe Moukagwe, for his effective use of informers in trailing the suspect up until he was arrested and eventually brought to account for his deeds. This sentencing is welcome news for the police and, we are hopeful, the family will find the closure they so deserve,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
Brigadier Ngcobo further called on tavern operators to take the issue of safety at their establishments more seriously than they are currently as some of these personal violence could be avoided.
