SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR MURDER INCIDENT AT LOCAL TAVERN
An Ivory Park man is under police guard in hospital after he was arrested for a murder incident in Ivory Park. The murder was committed in the early hours of Saturday.
“The suspect and the deceased were involved in a liquor fuelled argument at a local tavern. It was thought that the argument had been solved, only for the suspect to head home, fetched a knife, reignited the argument with the deceased and, finally, stabbed him once on the stomach and fled the scene. The victim, 33, died at the scene” said Captain Ben Matimulane of the Ivory Park SAPS.
“The community assaulted him and attempted to arrest him but he stabbed one of them and escaped. The police, being informed that he was injured, started looking for him at the adjacent health care facilities. He was found the same night at a local clinic and was arrested” Captain Matimulane said.
The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, is worried about the proliferation of unlicensed liquor outlets in the area, and the licenced establishments not doing enough to enhance security at their places.
“Searching of the patrons at these places should be the norm to ensure that customers are safe at all times,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
He warned that as part of the ongoing proactive measures into ensuring safety of the inhabitants of Ivory Park policing precinct, unlicensed liquor establishments should expect no mercy from the police and for the licensed ones to familiarise themselves with the terms and conditions of their licensing.
The suspect will make his first appearance in the Tembisa Magistrate Court soon.
