ALLANDALE ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR REHABILITATION

Allandale Road towards Kyalami in Midrand will be closed for a period of 3 months starting from Monday, 16 March 2020. This was announced today, 4 March 2020, by the Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure, Jacob Mamabolo.

The announcement follows the MEC’s visit to the area following complaints from motorists and residents regarding the state of the road. The Department had been maintaining the road from time to time but due to underlying underground-water, the road continued to deteriorate.

During the road closure, motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes through Waterfall to R55. “We are cognisant of the inconvenience that the road closure will cause, however, the safety of road user remains a priority.” said the MEC.

“Due to persistent challenges with the road, the Department took a decision to conduct tests and assessments to determine the causes of the deterioration. Our studies have indicated that there was rock and water formation underground that affected the quality of the road. It is for this reason that we have taken a decision to do a complete overhaul and rehabilitation of the road.” explained Mamabolo.
