CRIME STATISTICS : REPORTED TRIO CRIMES DOWN IN THE IVORY PARK POLICE STATION

The Crime Statistics for the 2019/20 have been released by the South African Police Service today, 31 July 2020. The crime stats are usually released in September. However, going forward the stats will be released quarterly as per Cabinet resolution.

Ivory Park has shown a significant decrease in TRIO Crimes. On last year’s statistics the Ivory Park Police Station which polices the Ivory park, Kaalfontein and Ebony Park Police precinct recorded the highest number of TRIO Cases in the country.

The Police refer to the crimes of hijackings, house robbery and business robbery as ‘trio crimes’. Trio Crimes are further divided into 6 sub categories namely: Carjacking, Robbery-residential premises, Robbery-no residential premises, Cash In Transit, Bank Robbery and Truck Hijackings

Trio Crimes decreased by an impressive 44% in the Ivory Park Police precinct. Trio crimes cases decreased from 567 to 313 this year. The Ivory Park Police Station moved from first place last year to number 30 this year in the top trio crime stations in South Africa.

The Midrand Police Station also showed a 26,5% decrease in housebreak ins while the Tembisa Police Station showed an increase in highjacking. A total of 143 cars were hijacked in Tembisa during the 2019/20 period

Cash In Transit recorded a 10% decrease in South Africa and no Bank Robberies were recorded in the country. One incident of a Cash In Transit heist was pulled of in Clayville late last year which falls under the Ivory Park Policing precinct.

MURDER

The Minster of Police, Bheki Cele, said that in Murder, the Police have recorded a trend of halving case increased in the past 3 years. South Africa recorded a case difference of 303 in the 2019/20 period.

At least 110 people were murdered in the Ivory Park Police precinct. This is 4 cases higher than in the 2018/19 period were 106 people were murdered.

RAPE

Tembisa Police Station recorded 167 rape cases an increase of 30 from last year’s statistics making it number 19 in the country and the Ivory Park Police Station recorded 141 rape cases during the period under review.

COVID-19
The coronavirus has drastically redefined traditional policing – social distancing is the new normal. The men and women in blue have collided with the drastic turn of events and had to immediately adjust whilst focusing on serving and protecting the nation.

The SAPS has lost 113 police officers due to COVID-19 and has recorded 12 138 confirmed cases with 254 police officers currently hospitalised.
