DISASTER RELIEF FOR IVORY PARK FLOOD VICTIMS

Yesterday, the 13th of December 2019 the Gauteng Provincial Government visited the areas of Ivory Park and Mamelodi. The areas were impacted by wide scale flooding that happened early this week.

As part of disaster relief response and efforts the Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura went to the flood stricken areas.

The Gauteng Province together with community leaders and Gift of the Givers, which is a disaster response organization distributed emergency supplies such as food and blankets to affected families.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura says he will ask the City of Johannesburg to prioritise putting up infrastructure in Ivory Park after a bridge collapsed due to heavy rains on Sunday. An elderly woman was rescued after being trapped on the structure.

“Poor communities where the infrastructure is not so strong are often affected by the slightest of flooding. We can also build our infrastructure in a way that helps. Strong stormwater systems are also very very important to be able to direct water where it’s required,” said Makhura
