Acting on information, the Tactical Response Team (TRT) deployed in the Ivory Park policing precinct managed to locate and arrest the five suspects.
The group has been arrested for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and are currently under police custody in the Ivory Park Police Station pending their appearance in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.
In the meantime, details surrounding their motives and the nature of criminal activity they were planning will be thoroughly investigated. Their cellphones have been taken in for downloading as part of additional investigations.
Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the Station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, has welcomed this arrest, and has commended the police officers for pursuing information given to them up until it lead them to the suspects, and the subsequent recovery of the car.
“The fact that the vehicle has only been found now, with false registration number plates, clearly shows us what kind of people we are dealing with. They are not afraid to tamper with the evidence to disguise their evil intentions,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
