HIKACKING SUSPECT COULD NOT EVADE COMMUNITY ANGER

On Thursday, 17 February 2022 at about 17:30, the community of Teanong and Motsu Sections in Tembisa caught one of the two suspects who had committed hijacking, assaulted him until he succumbed to his injuries.

“It is alleged that a 43 year old male was driving his white Nissan NP200, he was stationery at a red robot when he was approached by two unknown males, one with a firearm. They ordered him to move from the driver’s side, he managed to escape, meanwhile an unknown Uber driver witnessed the incident and offered the victim to chase his hijacked vehicle”. said Constable Patricia Mgijima the spokesperson of Tembisa SAPS.

The suspects were cornered at Motsu Section as the streets are barricaded by the community because of crime in this section.

The community came in numbers but one of the suspects in possession of a firearm escaped, while the 43 year old suspect couldn’t outrun the community anger. He was badly assaulted in an extent that when the police arrived, he was already dead.

Police have opened a case of murder. The police still urge the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect who was with the deceased is asked to anonymously contact the Tembisa police on (011)920-8000, WhatsApp MySAPS or call 0860010111.

This is the second mob justice incident this week in Tembisa. A suspected robber was assaulted to death in Makhulong Section where the community also set the suspected robbers vehicle alight.
