IVORY PARK SECONDARY DETHRONES ORACLE TO BECOME BEST PERFORMING SCHOOL AROUND KAE
Ivory Park Secondary School has dethroned Ponelopele Oracle Secondary School to become 2020’s top performing township school in the Greater Ivory Park Area.
The Ivory Park Secondary School achieved an impressive pass rate of 91,28% in 2020. The previous year’s top performing school, Ponelopele Oracle Secondary School in Kaalfontein came out third best with 86.38%.
Umqhele Comprehensive School saw the biggest drop in performance. The school dropped from fourth place to last place in 2020. The school achieved a 56% pass rate.
It should be noted that 2020 was an unprecedented year. Most of the academic year was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition with the final year exams. The class of 2020 had to deal with the added stress and uncertainty the COVID-19 pandemic bought. The Class of 2020 achieved a pass rate of 83.8% – a 3.5% decline compared to the 2019 achievement of 87.2%.
“Let me take this opportunity to congratulate the abnormal class of 2020. It was an abnormal year, a year that no one understood and anticipated” said Busisiwe Mashego, the South African Democratic Teacher’s Union (SADTU) Education Convener for the Ivory Park/Midrand Branch.
“The entire world came to a standstill due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We have lost a number of teachers. Some leaners sat for exams under painful and stressful situation, they were grieving their departed educators and their loved ones.”
“Our matriculants were brave enough, had courage and wrote the exams under those difficult circumstances. They picked up the spear and soldiered on. They made it at the end. Congratulations class of 2020” Mashego added.
