IVORY PARK TAXI DRIVER ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY

IVory Park Crime Prevention Officers have yesterday rescued a 29 year old man from a possible mob justice death, after he was caught while allegedly robbing a store in Ivory Park’s Extension Nine.

The suspect who has been arrested for business robbery and is currently under police guard is a driver for the Ivory Park Local Taxis. He is alleged to have, while with three other armed men, robbed foreigner owned shops in Kaalfontein and Ivory Park Extension Nine yesterday.

One of the victims managed to get the details of the vehicle, informed the taxi association who went down to it immediately.

During the two robberies money, cigarettes and an airtime vending machines were taken. It is not yet clear how the other three suspects fled the scene afterward, but the police are confident that, based on what they already know, the outstanding suspects will be nabbed in due course.

Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, has thanked the taxi association people for swiftly coming after one of their own.

“His conduct goes against what the local taxi association stands for, and we appreciate the fact that he was promptly arrested and now has to account for his actions,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.

“The manhunt for the other suspects is underway and the detained suspect will make his first appearance in the Tembisa Magistrate court tomorrow to face a charge of business robbery.” added the Ivory Park SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Ben Matimulane.
