IVORY PARK RAPIST HANDED LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The Tembisa Magistrate Court sentenced Sello Moloto to life imprisonment for rape case and kidnapping on 30th of October 2023.

On 19 February 2021, at Ivory Park Extension 11, the victim was from the tavern where she was drinking with friends. When the Tavern closed for the night, they went to another tavern.

“The friend wanted to go home and the victim decided to walk with her. They were accompanied by unknown male who they were drinking with in the tavern. After leaving the friend at her home, the victim and the man walked back,” said Captain Neldah Sekgobela.

“Along the way the man grabbed her and forced her to RDP houses. He took her inside one of the houses, and strangled her. The victim screamed and the suspect took a shoe lace and strangled her with it then took a sharp object and tried to open her legs. until the victim got scared and cooperated with the accused. Then he started to rape her,” Sekgobela said.

This continued the whole night.

In the morning the victim got help from the boys at a nearby car wash who helped her escape. The suspect was arrested on 06th of March by Sergeant Sepakela of the Tembisa FCS.

The case was investigated by Sergeant Livhuani Mphaho of the Tembisa Family Violence and Child protection Service unit.

Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole has welcomed the conviction and commended the concerted efforts of Sergeant Mphaho in working diligently on the case to ensure that the victim gets closure.
