MAN STABS GIRLFRIEND TO DEATH THEN COMMITS SUICIDE

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has expressed shock at the brutal murder of a woman at the hands of her 38-year-old boyfriend in Duduza on Wednesday.

“The woman was stabbed eight (8) times, with the knife left lodged in her body and finally hit with a hammer on the forehead by her boyfriend who left the scene and committed suicide in Olifantsfontein shortly afterwards. The lady was certified dead at the scene by the paramedics. It is not yet known what the couple were fighting for, what has been established is that they have a history of domestic violence related alterations,” said Captain Ben Matimulane, the Ivory Park SAPS Spokesperson.

“The cruelty visited upon this woman should jolt all of the law abiding members of the community to take a firm stance against the pandemic of gender based violence. Now two kids have been traumatised and orphaned as a result,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.

The station commander further urged the community, the families and victims themselves to never look for excuses to justify the actions of the abusers, such as blaming themselves, blaming stress, and even witchcraft. He said immediately someone starts showing abusive behaviour, those witnessing and on the receiving end of this action must spring to action before it becomes too late.

Victims should report these behaviours to the police, social workers and their families as soon as they happen. The police, through their
victims friendly facilities and a cohort of officers trained in gender based violence related matters, are better placed to assist victims.

Abusive characteristics can be seen by controlling behaviour, going through your phone, threats to harm ( they end up harming you), insults, blaming you for not being enough in many ways, selling your joint property minus your permission etc.

In relation to the above incident a case of murder has been opened at the Ivory Park SAPS while an inquest has been opened at the Olifantsfontein SAPS.
