MORE THAN 2000 CORONAVIRUS RECOVERIES IN SOUTH AFRICA

As at today, 28 April 2020, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 4,996. Out of the confirmed cases the total recoveries are now 2,073 and a further 3 deaths have unfortunately been recorded.

South Africa has 2,166 closed cases and 2,830 active cases. Active cases are the total number of confirmed cases less the recoveries and deaths.

The recorded deaths today all occurred in the Western Cape. The Western Cape has overtook Gauteng by being the province with the highest number of coronavirus confirmed cases. Western Cape has 1,870 and Gauteng has 1,377 cases. Western Cape also has the highest number of coronavirus related deaths at 38, followed by KwaZulu-Natal (30), Eastern Cape (10) and Gauteng (8). We convey our condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.

Social distancing remains one of the key strategies in containing the virus. Furthermore, the public is urged to always wear a face mask in public.
