OVER 1 MILLION COVID-19 TESTS CONDUCTED IN SOUTH AFRICA

Today, 11 June 2020, South Africa has reached a milestone of over 1 million COVID-19 tests conducted. A total of 1 028 399 tests have been conducted in South Africa with 29 999 conducted in the last 24 hours.

52% of the total tests were conducted in Public Health facilities and 48% have been conducted in Private Health Facilities. The Mister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize said in a statement today that “This was no small feat and I would like to pay tribute to all the technicians and pathologists in the NHLS and Private laboratories and all the staff who work in the most risky environment, 24 hours a day, to churn out these results.”.

South Africa was one of the first off the mass testing mark and we were the first country to do community screening and testing. KAE News has been giving the community information of where the testing have been held. Community Screening and Testing were conducted in places like Busy Corner Mall, Busy Corner, Kaalfontein Yarona Centre, Ivory Park Kopanong Centre, Rabie Ridge Taxi Rank, Phomolong Mall and others.

As at today, the total number of coronavirus cases in South Africa is 58 568 and the total number of recoveries is 33 252 which translates to a 56,8% recovery rate. A total of 3,148 new cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours.

Deaths will be updated later when they have been collated.

The City of Johannesburg is still offering COVID-19 testing facilities in Bophelong Clinic, Ivory Park and Halfway House Clinic, Midrand.
