POTENTIAL ROBBER FOUND WITH TWO FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION IN IVORY PARK

The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed the arrest of a suspect for possession of two (2) unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Ivory Park’s Extension Three this afternoon, Wednesday, 13 July 2022.

The arrest came as a result of information received by the police’s crime intelligence which, together with other law enforcement agencies, they diligently followed. The units involved in this successful operation are the SAPS’s Johannesburg North Crime Intelligence, the Gauteng Traffic’s Special Law Enforcement Unit, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s Region A and Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s Special Task Team, Prasa’s Business Intelligence Unit, a security company named 87 Future and Tracker 58.

“Immediately after getting the information provided to them, the officers proceeded to an address where they were told that a serious meeting was taking place. Even though it was not clear to the police officers what the nature of the meeting was, the suspicion is rife that the group might have been planning some form of criminal action. One of the attendees in this meeting is apparently on the police’s radar,” said Captain Ben Matimulane, the spokesperson of Ivory Park SAPS.

“On arrival they saw vehicles driving into different directions but they zoomed specifically on the vehicle they were after. The driver was stopped, searched and was found in possession of two unlicensed firearms, a 3.8 pistol with erased serial numbers and a Glock and collectively 14 rounds of live ammunition” said Matimulane.

The 41-year-old man was arrested and detained at the Ivory Park SAPS police cells and is due to face charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

“Informing the police about any form of criminal activity remains an effective way of preventing crime. Our hats off to the agencies involved in this successful operation,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon
