Statistics South Africa is conducting a Pilot Census from 4 July to 4 August 2021 to prepare for the upcoming Census in 2022.

The Pilot Census is conducted via online and telephonic data collection methods and households are required to register by 30 July 2021 for data collection. The Pilot Census will assist with planning for the main census.

Participating in the remote data collection for the Pilot Census requires respondents to register on https://getcounted.statssa.gov.za. Respondents may also contact Stats SA via our toll-free number, 0800 110 248, for further assistance.

Registration for telephonic and online participation is free. No respondent, whether on prepaid or contract, on whichever network, will pay any data costs to access and complete the Pilot Census Questionnaire.

A link to the Pilot Census questionnaire will be sent to respondents who choose to complete the questionnaire on their own or a Stats SA call centre agent will call respondents that register for telephonic data collection and complete the questionnaire with Stats SA call centre agent.
