SASSA INTRODUCES PAYMENT METHOD CHANGES FOR COVID-19 GRANT

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has experienced long queues from Post Offices. The Ebony Park Post Office has run out of cash a number of times leaving beneficiaries empty handed. Some of the beneficiaries visit the Post Office in Ebony Park Shopping Centre as early as 5 o’clock in the morning to access the R350,00 government grant.

SASSA has introduced new payment method for the R350 COVID-19 grant to be redeemed at chosen outlets. Beneficiaries can now choose to receive their grant to a bank account of their choice. SASSA is opening it’s system for approved citizens to update channel which payment should be made.The System will open from Monday 03 August to Sunday 09 August 2020 for 24 hours a day.

Approved beneficiaries of the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant can change their payment method by visiting www.srd.sassa.gov.za next week. Beneficiaries of the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant are requested not to visit the Post Office during the first seven days of the month as that week is reserved for payment of normal grants.

The beneficiaries are also reminded to not go to the Post Office before they have received the SMS that says funds are available. SASSA says that people should captured details correctly including account number. The Account Number must be in your name and must be open.

“If choosing a money transfer option, please ensure that the cellphone number provided is correct and is registered in your name.
