TEMBISA IS CRIME HOTSPOT SAYS MAKHURA

Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Police Commissioner, Elias Mawela led an anti-crime operation called ‘O Kae Molao’ on Thursday, 3 March 2022, in Tembisa.

Makhura conducted road blocks in parts of Tembisa accompanied by officials from SAPS, National Traffic Police, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department and various private security companies.

O Kae Molao seeks to stamp the authority of the state.

The Tembisa policing precinct is on the Top 10 police stations in Gauteng where violent crimes are committed according to the latest SAPS crime statistics.

Makhura said that some of the most wanted suspects in the country reside in Tembisa. “They commit crimes elsewhere and hide in Tembisa”.

Tembisa Police Station is:

  • Number 6 in Murder in Gauteng with 38 murders reported between October-December 2021.
  • Number 1 in Attempted Murder in Gauteng (number 5 in South Africa)
  • Number 2 for Robbery with aggravating circumstances (Number 7 in South Africa)
  • Number 5 for Assault with the intent to inflict Grievous Bodily Harm.
  • Number 6 in highjacking
  • Number 1 in TRIO CRIMES (Highjackings, house and business robberies)

At the time of publishing ,the operation made 806 arrests with 165 being Gender-Based Violence related cases across Gauteng Province.

Makhura and the police also inspected spaza shops for compliance. Some spaza shop owners did not have proper documents and were arrested on the spot by Department of Home Affairs officials who were part of the operation.

Roadblocks were also conducted searching for hijacked and stolen vehicles, illegal firearms and illicit goods being transported on the roads.

Tembisa community members complained to the Premier about illegal guns that purpertuate the scourge of crime in the area.

Makhura acknowledged that crime and unemployment are the top two concerns facing the people of Gauteng.
