#Ad AFRICAN TRANSFORMATION MOVEMENT WARD COUNCILLOR CANDIDATES

The African Transformation Movement (ATM) is a political party which is a “new kid on the block” and hopes for your vote come the Local Government Elections scheduled for the 1st of November 2021.

ATM has fielded two young candidates in Ivory Park (Ward 79) and Ebony Park (Ward 111). The candidates are activists Sithembiso Buthelezi and Sibusiso Moolar respectively. They are both 31 years of age.

Buthelezi serves as ATM’s Head of Political Education in Johannesburg Region and the Secretary for Sub-Region A. He is the current Deputy Chairperson of the Midrand Local Football Association and is the founder of 2 football teams being Real Midrand FC and Spoiler FC which play under SAFA JHB.

Sthe was the SRC Deputy President at Isolomuzi High School in KwaZulu Natal and matriculated at Eqinisweni Secondary School in Ivory Park.

Sthe was instrumental in resolving the electricity crisis in Ivory Park last year and this year. In his philanthropic work, he has assisted lots of young people without parents and people who are affected by HIV and AIDS.

Buthelezi’s counterpart in Ebony Park is Sibusiso Moolar. After the 2016 Local Government Elections Sibusiso became the youngest Ward Committee member in Ward 111 and was responsible for the Community Development portfolio.

Moolar is credited with establishing the Labour Desk which is a platform for job seekers in Ward 111. Other wards in Greater Ivory Park were also influenced by the platform.

The young activist has been at the forefront of local protest actions demanding accountability since the 2000s.

During 2017, as the Secretary of the local YCLSA branch he led a March together with the SACP to Eskom offices to demand the electrification of Themba Khoza informal settlement which was electrified a year later.

Sbu was at the forefront of demanding the operational hours of the Kaalfontein -Ebony Park clinic to be 24 hours. He also led a March for employment to new developers in the Ward (Busy Corner Mall and ‘Boxer’). The developers eventually hired community during construction phase and after the stores were operating.

Moolar graduated from YALI (Young African Leadership Initiative) which is a programme by the former USA President, Barack Obama. He also served as an AU (African Union) volunteer.

In 2019, Moolar was elected as the youngest Chairperson of the Ebony Park Primary School’s School Governing Body (SGB) and is currently serving his second term.

“I wish to encourage young people to vote for change. We need young people to rescue other young people in our area” said Sithembiso Buthelezi, the Secretary for ATM in Sub-Region A.
