FOUR ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF AN ILLEGAL FIREARM AND HIJACKED VEHICLES IN RABIE RIDGE

Four (4) males aged between 20 and 29 were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, hijacked motor vehicles and motorcycle in Rabie Ridge, Midrand.

On Monday, 06 November 2023, officers followed up on information of suspects who were terrorizing the Midrand area with hijackings, house robberies and armed robberies.

Further information indicated that the suspects were armed with firearms and were in possession of a hijacked vehicle.

The officers proceeded to the suspects’ hideout. Upon arrival, four males were found and when searched an unlicensed firearm was found in their possession.

“The officers searched the premises and a white Kia Rio which was hijacked as per the Midrand SAPS case, a blue Toyota Corolla which was hijacked as per the Rabie Ridge SAPS case, a Black Opel Corsa with tampered identity and a Suzuki motorcycle which was hijacked as per Sebenza SAPS case were recovered.” said Xolani Fihla the spokesperson of JMPD.

“The suspects were arrested and detained at Rabie Ridge SAPS. Upon arrival at the police station, the suspects were identified by detectives as the individuals they were looking for, regarding a spate of robberies and hijackings in the area”, Fihla added.

The suspects are due to appear before the Tembisa Magistrates Court soon.
