GRADE 1 AND 8 ADMISSIONS OPEN ON THURSDAY

The Gauteng Department of Education will open online admissions for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners on Thursday, 25th of June 2020. Parents have a full month to apply for a school online as the closing date will be on the 25th of July 2020. From Thursday you may apply online at gdeadmissions.gov.za

Parents seeking Admission to a public school for Grade 1 and/or Grade 8 for the 2021 school year must apply from 25 June 2020 at 08:00 until 25 July 2020 at 00:00.

ADMISSION CRITERIA
Parents have the option of applying for a maximum of 5 schools using the following admission criteria:
Option 1 The applicant learner’s place of residence is closest to the school within the feeder zone
Option 2 The Applicant leaner has a sibling attending the school
Option 3 The place of employment of at least one of the applicant’s learner is pithing the feeder zone of the school
Option 4 The applicant learner’s place of residence is within 30 kilometre radius of the school; or
Option 5 The applicant learner’s place of residence is beyond 30 kilometre radius of the school.

NB: The application process consists of 3 steps.

Please ensure that you complete all details for Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3.

Step 1 Enter Parent/Legal Guardian details- After completing Step 1, you will receive an SMS with Username and Password.
Step 2 Enter Learner Details- after completing Step 2 proceed to Step 3
Step 3 Apply to a school- After completing Step 3, you will receive an SMS with a waiting list number.

Child’s Clinic Card for Grade 1 Application

Non South African Citizens
Parent Passport or Study Permit
Parent Passport and Wrk Permit
Parent refugee permit
Permanent residence permit
Proof of residential addresss/work address
Child’s clinic card for Grade 1 Application
Grade 7 report card for Grade 8 application

The MEC of Education in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi said “The principle of first come, fist served will NOT be applied as a rule. Therefore no there’s no need for urgency to apply at 08:00 on 25 June 2020. Instead, parents should apply at leisure and refrain from rushing to schools or walk in centres when the system opens.”

GDE has will have walk in centres across the province. KAE residents can visit the Ivory Park Hall (Lord Khanyile), Rabie Ridge Community Hall, Bonwelong Primary School and Oracle Ponelopele Secondary School.
