ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS REMOVED IN TSWELOPELE

Eskom officials accompanied by members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), South African Police Services (SAPS) and private security removed illegal connections in Tswelopele on Thursday, 02 June 2022.

The area is a high density area with high instances of illegal connections and meter bypassing.

Illegal connections and bypassed meters cause network overloading and result in transformer and mini substation failures and explosions.

Eskom has further withdrawn services in the Tswelopele area. Violent protests from members of the community erupted after illegal connections were removed.

The power utility says that it will only resume with services in the area when it deems it safe to do so.

Report Illegal Connections on the Eskom Crime Line 0800112722.
