PUBLIC ASSISTANCE LEADS TO ARREST OF GUN SUSPECT

The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS has commended the members of the community who assisted the law enforcement officers in the arrest of a fleeing gun suspect.

The 25-year old man and two other suspects were apparently running away from the road block, and were being pursued by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department Officer, when they bumped into the local Ivory Park police officers and patrollers.

“We commend the members of the community who rose up to the occassion when a gun totting man came running,” said Brigadier Ngcobo. The brigadier further encouraged the community to report those with illegal firearms, and toy guns as well, to the police through the police’s crime stop at 08600 10111.

The firearm recovered is a 9mm pistol with only one cartridge. It had no serial number.

The suspect will appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court tomorrow to face a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
